After delaying iPadOS 16 for over a month, Apple has finally started rolling out the operating system to compatible devices. The latest OS brings several new features, improvements and enhancements and here are 10 features that iPadOS 16 brings to iPads.
Edit, undo send and mark as read for Messages
With the iPad OS 16 update, Apple has added some new features to Messages. Users can now edit a sent message, undo send within a certain interval of time and also mark a received message as unread.
Collaboration is now easier with Messages
Messages app has also received new collaboration features. As a part of this, users can now easily collaborate with other Messages users. According to Apple’s official post, “When users send an invitation to collaborate via Messages, everyone on the thread is automatically added to the document, spreadsheet, or project, and when someone makes an edit to the shared document, activity updates appear at the top of the thread”.
Smart tools in Mail
A new Remind me feature has been added to the Mail app. The feature allows users to set reminders for mail received that will remind them at a later date to respond and reply. Another new feature that has been added to the Mail app is the ability to get automatic suggestions to follow up on an email in case of no response. Furthermore, the Mail app on iPad sends automatic alerts if a user has forgotten to add a recipient or attachment in an email. Users can now also schedule a mail using the Mail app.
Improved search feature on Mail
Mail app has also received two new features to improve search on the Mail app. The Smart search corrections and smart search suggestions. The search corrections feature automatically corrects typos and also uses synonyms for the search terms. While the search suggestions show a “richer view of shared content and more from the moment you begin to search for email messages.”
iCloud shared photo library
A new iCloud Photos library has been added. The new shared library allows up to six people to collaborate. Apart from that, users get intelligent suggestions to share photo moments.
Safari is now more secure and practical
iPad OS 16 has brought a handful of new features to Safari. For starters, it has got the new Passkey feature, a next-generation credential designed to replace passwords. The feature, according to Apple, syncs with iCloud Keychain and allows users to securely login into apps and services using biometric authentication.
Shared Tab Groups have also arrived on Safari. The feature allows users to share a collection of websites with friends and family. Additionally, users can now pin tabs in Tab groups.
One of the most anticipated features — Stage Manager– has finally arrived on the iPads. It is the new desktop-class multitasking feature for iPad allowing users to resize apps size, and multitask on the fly along with creating paired apps to offer a Macbook-like experience on iPad.
Weather app finally arrives on the iPad
iPad finally gets its native weather app. The weather app for iPad, according to the company, is optimised for a larger display and offers new animations and important data like air quality, temperature and also severe weather alerts.
Live Text gets visual and functional improvements
iPad OS 16 brings improvements to the Live Text features on iPads. Users can now extract data from a video frame. Features like copy, paste, lookup and translate, etc are available now. It works with Photos, Quick Look, Safari and other apps.
Features borrowed from iOS 16
In addition to exclusive features, iPad OS 16 also shares some features with its mobile operating system counterpart — the iOS 16. Features like the newly redesigned Home app, Lockdown mode, and improved privacy and security features from iOS 16 are also available on iPad OS 16.
